Anesthesia
This is an initial procedure made before the operation. It can be local or general depending on scale of intervention. The main reason of this procedure is to reduce pain and uncomfortable sense for patient during the treatment. It also gives some release after the operation. It can be done by using of pills, injection and by anesthesiologist in case of general anesthesia.
Types of anesthesia:
- Local anesthesia -
Treated area is anaesthetized by injecting the anesthetic which results in eliminating feeling pain for several hours.
- Sedation -
An anesthetist applies medicines intravenously which eliminates feeling pain by the patient in the demanded phase of the surgery.
- General anesthesia -
This kind of anesthesia demands applying medicines and performing full intubation of the patient by the anesthetist. During the surgery the patient is insensitive to pain. For each surgery the best kind of anesthesia is chosen, taking into consideration patient’s health state and convenience.
Before surgery in sedation or under general anesthesia the patient should not:
- eat or drink for 6 hours before the surgery
- take medications affecting blood clotting e.g. Aspirin for 14 days before the surgery
- do following lab tests:
- morphology
- electrolytes
- blood group
- EKG
- X-ray of thorax
