Pinnaplasty - Ear correction
Pinnaplasty or Ear Correction is a procedure that is performed to correct the size and/or placement of ears that protrude from the head. The candidates for Pinnaplasty are those whose ears have finished growing. Because the ears are one of the first features to stop the growing process, even four or five years old patients may be good candidates for pinnaplasty.
The procedure is performed on most often under local anesthesia. The surgery takes one to two hours. A small incision is made in the fold behind the ear. Through this incision the Doctor reshapes the cartilage of the ear and if needed, cuts away excess cartilage or skin and pin the remaining structures into place. The cuts are closed with intadermal suture.
Pressure band, holding the ears to the head has to be worn for the next month day and night. After that time the band has to be worn only at night for one more month. The surgery is safe and the outcome is lasting and natural-looking.
