Liposuction

Liposuction is a procedure performed to remove excess fat accumulated in certain areas of the body. It slims and reshapes the treated areas of the body and by that it improves your body contours and proportion, and ultimately, enhances your self-image. Best effects are obtained when performing liposuction on areas such as: abdomen (over and below umbilicus), hips, waist, thighs, and medial side of knees.

Liposuction enables removing fat cells permanently and therefore the effect is lasting provided the patient has proper nutrition and hygienic lifestyle.

The surgery is performed under general or local anesthesia depending on the area treated.

,p>In our clinic we use tumescent method which involves the injection of a large amount of anesthetic into the area being treated (wet and super-wet techniques) which can not only improve precision of the treatment but also reduces post operative bruising, swelling and pain.

In the first phase, the treated areas are soaked with large amount of fluid containing anesthetic that facilitates suctioning of the fat and reduces bleeding.

In the second phase of the surgery, through incisions 2 mm wide, cannula, is inserted in order to loosen excess fat using a controlled back and forth motion. The detached fat is then suctioned out of the body using a surgical vacuum attached to the cannula.

During the surgery, for medical safety reasons, only up to 3 liters of fatty tissue can be suctioned at one time. Recovery is usually quick. Most patients can return to work within a few days and to normal activities within about two weeks. You should expect bruising, swelling and soreness for at least a few weeks. However, every person's outcome will vary based on factors such as volume of fat cells removed and area of removal. During the time of recovery a pressure suit has to be worn for at least one month.

The patient’s age is not a contra-indication to liposuction.
