Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty ("nose forming") is a procedure in plastic surgery in which the structure of the nose is changed. By this procedure you can reduce or increase the size of your nose, make it more narrow or wide, correct the shape of the tip and of the nosdrils, correct the shape of the bridge or narrow the span of the nostrils. The most often nose deformations are excessive bone-cartilage hump, curved bridge of nose, wide and bifurcated tip of the nose.
The surgery is performed under general or local anesthesia depending on the range of the surgery.
Incisions run inside the nose. During the operation a piece of bone and cartilage is removed which enables modeling desired shape. Incisions are closed with absorbable sutures, tampons are placed in nasal passages and an external nasal splint is applied.
In the first period after the surgery swelling and local bruises in the area of lower eyelids may appear.
Dressings are made for the period of 7-10 days. For the next month it is necessary for the patient to limit physical exertion and protect the nose from any injuries, overheating and cooling. Cold compresses can be applied in order to minimize swelling and bruises. On 3- 4 day after the surgery nasal drops should be applied to relieve airway obstruction.
